Board of Directors

First on the board: 2018

Kathleen was elected to the Board of Directors in 2018. She has been a Human Resource professional for more than 30 years. Her experience includes working in for-profit and not-for-profit industries, as well as management of her own HR consulting firm. Currently, she works as a Human Resources Director for the Church (with past work in several departments throughout).

Kathleen earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Development from Brigham Young University and her master’s degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Servant Leadership from Gonzaga University. Kathleen and her family have been members of DFCU since 1999 and enjoy the many outstanding services provided by DFCU and its exceptional employees. Her board responsibilities have included working on the Technology Committee, the Compensation Committee, and chairing the Training Committee. She is currently serving on the Strategic Planning Committee, the Compensation Committee and is chair of the Nominations Committee.

First elected to the board: 2010

Kai Hintze has served on the Deseret First Credit Union Board of Directors for several years with a few interruptions from international assignment. He is currently the DTA for Historic Sites working for the Presiding Bishopric. Prior to this assignment he was the DTA for the Europe East Area living in Moscow, Russia. He has enjoyed his prior assignments with the DFCU, especially serving with Deseret First Charitable Foundation.

Kai holds a Master of Business Administration/Finance degree from Utah State University and has earned several accounting/finance/risk certifications. He and his wife Diane, live in Centerville, Davis County. They have enjoyed living in several different countries during their careers. He enjoys serving the members of the credit union with their financial and economic needs.

First elected to the board: 2017

Vance Huntley was elected to the board in 2017. He is the Treasury Manager for Intermountain Power Agency (IPA). Prior to his employment at IPA, he was an Internal Auditor with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chief Financial Officer with Xcel Fitness, and Audit Manager with Deloitte & Touche, LLP. Vance volunteered as a member of Deseret First Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee from 2008-2017, and he was serving as chairman of that committee at the time of his election to the board. He enjoyed the opportunity to serve on the Supervisory Committee and work with the DFCU Board and Management on such issues as risk analysis, financial stability, and improving the internal audit function.

Vance holds a Masters of Accounting/Information Systems degree from Brigham Young University and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He lives in Davis County with his wife and five children and loves any opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreational activities. As a member of DFCU, Vance believes strongly in the benefits it can provide to its members and their families. He strives to ensure DFCU continues to offer the services that will benefit all its members and their variety of financial needs.

Beth is a Senior VP (Human Resources) of Bonneville International, supporting the KSL TV and radio stations, along with two music radio stations. She also serves on the advisory board for LR Dynamics, an aluminum parts manufacturer in Salt Lake City. Prior to her role with Bonneville, Beth worked for Hewlett Packard, first as an HR Management Associate and then as an HR Business Partner. She began her career as a university English instructor for international students and enjoys opportunities to train and coach in her professional life.

She received an MBA as well as a master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Brigham Young University. Beth has worked with DFCU marketing to provide financial education for Bonneville employees. As a DFCU member, she continues to be impressed with the high-quality products and services that the credit union and its employees provide. As a member of the board, she is committed to meeting the needs of members and the goals of the organization.

First elected to the board: 2001

Doug Martin has served on the Deseret First Credit Union Board of Directors for several years. He served as a past Chairman and Vice Chair as well as a member of the Loan Policy, ALM, Compensation and Strategic Planning committees. He is employed as the Director of Treasury Services for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In this position, he is the treasurer of the global organization and is responsible for the overall working capital operations of the Church.

First elected to the board: 2022

Manager, Data Privacy Office, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Salt Lake City, UT. Ms. Park manages the global privacy program for the Church and oversees compliance with global data privacy laws and regulations. Ms. Park has a Bachelors Degree from Weber State University and an MBA from Utah State University. She also holds several privacy, security and auditing professional certifications.

First elected to the board: 2023

John joined the board in 2023 after having previously served as a member of the Supervisory Committee where he was serving as Chair. During his time he has also served as committee secretary and on the Nomination and Enterprise Risk Management committees.

John is the Department Controller for the Finance and Records Department for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Previously he worked as an Audit Director in the Church’s internal audit department. Earlier in his career, he was an Audit Manager for Deloitte, where he specialized in auditing financial institutions.

John is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master of Professional Accounting degree from the University of Utah. He lives in Utah county along with his wife and four children.

Spencer Walker joined DFCU in 2006 as an employee. He spent 7 years in financial, strategic project, and member relation roles before leaving to manage MainStreet Capital Partners. In 2015 Spencer began work at the Center for Technology and Venture Commercialization (TVC) at the University of Utah. At TVC, Spencer collaborates with researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors to foster innovation – aiming not only to deliver a financial return to the University but also to positively impact the community. Spencer earned his undergraduate and MBA degrees from the University of Utah.

Peter Wirthlin is a Solution Manager in the Information and Communication Services Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He currently supports two Church departments for their Information Technology infrastructure needs worldwide. His experience includes managing software projects and implementing networks and phones worldwide.

Peter earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer and Electronics Technology with a minor in Spanish at Utah State University. He has been a Project Management Professional (PMP) since 2011. He enjoys an active lifestyle with his wife and their four children. He is honored to be able to serve the DFCU community.
